Railroad Bridge over Rt 13 in New Castle

Senator Poore met with representatives from Norfolk Southern, DelDOT, and New Castle County to discuss the railroad bridge over Route 13 in New Castle.

DelDOT will take the lead in applying for a permit to paint the bridge, with an estimated approval timeframe of 3 to 6 months. Once the permit is granted, DelDOT will proceed with the painting project.

In the interim, Norfolk Southern will assess the pipe currently running along the bridge. If deemed appropriate, the pipe will be removed to help deter graffiti.

Finally, DelDOT will request an inspection of the bridge’s structural integrity.

Bushes on both side of the bridge have already been removed.

  1. I would love to see a mural on the Railroad Bridge at Route 13! It would be much more appealing to look at than the graffiti or just plain dull paint. We can recruit local artists to promote their talent by submitting ideas to our Civic Association, which in turn, may give a sense of unity. When I drive through Newark where murals are displayed on the overpass near the car dealerships, I just think to myself, oh wow, these people really care about their community to put so much time & effort into such a venture. So, I say let’s do the mural!
